An 'Agritourism' Journey

The Journey offers a uniquely curated agricultural and tourism (agritourism) experience across the north, meeting the produce and passion of farmers/producers in the place where they create.

Each day promises a unique adventure, guiding you through varied landscapes to enjoy local cuisine and beverages, musical performances, and the inspiration behind the food we eat. The Saturday and Sunday experiences are different and can be booked together or separately depending on your interest.

On Saturday, you venture into the Lilydale region, indulging in a range of delights, from charcuterie to exquisite champagne.

Sunday finds us delving deeper into the culture and heritage of a different part of the region, uncovering the essence of its local produce.

How to travel through the Lilydale region

The Journey is designed to be enjoyed with family and friends, connecting life’s experiences through the pleasure of local food.

We encourage you to travel together. Embarking on a shared journey contributes to our efforts to minimise the carbon footprint associated with the Journey.

The Journey will start each day from a single location and will include everything you need to embark on the ‘Journey’ for 4 to 5 hours. To help minimise the impact on the landscapes we will travel to, we ask you to select a time for arrival during the checkout process that best suits you.

Forests, Food, and Fine Wine

As we wind our way through the foothills of Mount Arthur, we will discover some of its culinary delights, exceptional sparkling, and the stories of the producers. Enjoy canapés as you take in the essence of Tasmanian landscape. Listen to music from an array of local artists. Treat yourself to a tasting plate and book a masterclass to learn more.

Saturday 3rd August

The Journey starts at the Harvest Market; where you will receive all the information and directions to start your adventure!

Saturday’s adventure includes morning tea at the Harvest market and all essentials for your curated experience, including information needed to support your arrival on site (as some have specific requirements in order to maintain farm health and safety).

At Summerlea Farm you will hear the farming story of Liz and Rick Mahnken and their work to restore the natural habitats for the benefit of fresh water lobster in the region. You will enjoy a panel session facilitated by Dr Sue Kilpatrick exploring the importance of social connections through farmers in the region. Share a taste of produce from Summerlea Farm whilst you experience music curated especially for the cows, prior to heading to Clover Hill.

At Clover Hill, Clementine Blackman will facilitate a panel with Daniel Croker (Fork it Farm), Ian White (Clover Hill), and Matthew Evans (Fat Pig Farm and author of Soil, and Milk). The panel will explore the importance of terroir on the food they produce and what this means for the food we eat. Enjoy a bookable lunch experience curated by Fork it Farm and Clover Hill and enjoy music from Tessa Lee.

Heritage Harvest

Explore a different part of the region and delve into its culture and heritage in a variety of ways. Starting the day in a learning landscape, we will enjoy a different view of our Island and its produce, and then journey further to explore its heritage and graze on the region’s best produce. Find some new acoustics and music and discover what is possible as old buildings come to new life.

What's Included

Sunday 4th August

The Journey will head into the southern part of the region, close to Relbia and Evandale. Starting with a Farming Yarn on Country, participants will have the chance to learn more about healing country and the cultural practices used over thousands of years through the voices of Tasmanian Aboriginal Community members. The conversation will be shared with the farmer, who will talk about their knowledge and the practices they use. Share Indigenous food over morning tea and immerse yourself in a space where ‘knowledge’ meets ‘knowledge’.

Following the Farming Yarn, we will then move to Harland Rise where we will continue the discussion on the importance of land management and food production. A panel session Chaired by Caroline Brown (Chair agriCULTURED), including Luke Mabb (Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy), and Larna Pittiglio (Heartlands Tasmania, & Tasmanian Produce Collective), will talk through the importance of local food production, and the land management ingredients needed to produce great food. You will have the chance to lean more about the restoration of the Chapel and the accommodation available. A grazing table curated by Larna Pittiglo and featuring local produce and lamb sourced from Harland Rise, is a bookable experience that can be enjoyed over lunch whilst we enjoy music from Katy Humphries + Mick Attard.

Join Luke Mabb and Djuker Hart for a Farming Yarn.

Luke is a wakka wakka man and the Tasmanian representative for the Australian Association for Bush Adventure Therapy. Luke has traversed roles of Aboriginal Ranger, Mentor, Cultural Leader, and Facilitor and his passion is caring for country while also caring for people to strengthen community.

Djuker is a wakka-wakka, Ku-Ku_yalanji and Butchula man who was born in Tasmania. Djuker runs Hart Cultural Connections and is the 2024 Tasmanian Indigenous Achievement Award Winner, Young Achievement Awards.

Together, Luke and Djuker will welcome us to Country and take us into a conversation centred on Indigenous culture and cultural land management practice. We will share an indigenous inspired morning tea prepared by Djuker. A panel session with John and Emily (Bundaleera), Luke, and Djuker will provide us with an opportunity to share knowledge and find out more about how agritourism can provide a good space for knowledge sharing.
