Professor Rob Shellie
Associate Head of Research / Professor in Food and Nutrition
Although Rob joined TIA on April Fool’s Day 2024, his work in food safety and food innovation is very serious. His research and research training focuses on developing and adopting new techniques and cutting-edge chemical measurement approaches for analysis of food and flavour. He is in expert in chemical measurement and completed formal training in Analytical Chemistry at RMIT University and the Max-Planck Institute of Molecular Plant Physiology in Germany. Rob moved to UTAS’ Australian Centre for Research in Separation Science in 2005, before returning to “the mainland” where he worked in the precision manufacturing industry enabling scientific solutions for biological, environmental or food related measurements, and later in the CASS Food Research Centre at Deakin University. His most recent research in TIA has delivered rapid detection strategies for bacteria in food and trace analysis of cyanide in groundwater and food.
