Durkhanai Ayubi

Durkhanai Ayubi is an Afghan-born writer. Leading with a layered lens of food, her own negated ancestral narratives and her lived experience that bridges across cultural worlds, she seeks to clarify, expand and reframe how we view ourselves and our shared social realities.

She has served on numerous boards, and features in national and global publications. She is a Lifelong Fellow of the Atlantic Institute, a social justice–focused fellowship based at Oxford University.

Her first book Parwana: Recipes and Stories from an Afghan Kitchen (2020) sharing her mother’s recipes, received global acclaim. Her latest book She Who Tastes, Knows (2026) is an invitation into a sweeping repositioning of shared identity and possibility, through the abundance and reckonings held in the food and ingredients that shape her life.
